How to upload your video

How to Upload An "Unlisted" Performance with YouTube

Step 1: Log into your YouTube account (same credentials as your Google account)

Step 2: Click on the video icon at the top right hand side of the window, which can be found next to your user icon, messages, apps, and notifications.

Step 3: Click 'Upload Video'

Step 4. Drag and drop your files into the window, or press ‘select files to upload’ to find the video file saved on your computer.

Step 5: In the "Details" area put the title of your piece in the Title and a Description that includes your name, piece, and composer name.

Step 6: For "Audience" choose Yes it's made for kids.
You can skip Video Elements or add whatever you like.

Step 8: Choose "Unlisted" for privacy.  We recommend this step so you can only share your video files with who you choose.

Final Step: When the video is finished uploading, copy the link and include it in your submission.

Practice Performance Tips

Here are some tips to get the most out of your performance:

  • Don't rush into it. Take a deep breath and be ready to perform.
  • Don't try and be perfect - part of the value of this service is knowing areas for improvement.
  • Relax - you can always make another recording.

Smartphone Recording Tips

  • If you are using your smartphone, note that most smartphone microphones are located on the back of the phone, near the bottom of the handset.
  • Put your recording device 2-3 feet from your instrument.
  • Point the phone's microphone in the direction of the instrument
  • If someone is holding the smartphone, make sure their hand isn't covering the mic
  • Switch your phone to "airplane mode" so you don't get a call while you're recording
  • If you can, try and find a nice, quiet location.
  • Check for wind. Even a mild breeze blowing into a mic can overpower the sound.
